How will the Paya Lebar Air Base be redeveloped

The air base is set to be relocated in 2030.

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has unveiled proposals for the redevelopment of the Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB) from the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and the Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP).

These plans include transforming PLAB into a new generation town with homes, jobs, and lifestyle amenities that meet the needs of a community of the future.

Another proposal is to develop “a heritage district anchored on the PLAB’s heritage as a former international airport, where existing infrastructure such as the old airport runway, terminal building, and other historic buildings form the foundation of its transformation through adaptive reuse,” said the URA.

A network of signature parks and waterways has also been proposed to embed nature with future developments.

To further seek ideas for PLAB’s redevelopment, URA also launched a competition for the public on how they want the PLAB to be transformed.

Individuals who are planning to join the competition can check URA”s website to check existing concept proposals for the air base.

The PLAB is set to be relocated in 2030 and will free up about 800 hectares of land in the East Region.
