Accommodation costs jumped by 5.1% in May

Blame it on higher rentals.

According to Maybank Kim Eng, accommodation cost increased by +5.1% YoY (Apr 2013: +2.4% YoY) on the back of higher rentals on owner-occupied units.

The pickup also reflect the one-off effect of the S&CC rebates disburse d to households residing in HDB flats that contributed to the deceleration in “Housing” cost in Apr 2013.

Here's more from Maybank Kim Eng:

Headline inflation rate in May 2013 remained benign at +1.6% YoY (Apr 2013: +1.5% YoY) while the core inflation rate (CPI excluding accommodation and private road transport) was +1.7% YoY (Apr 2013: +1.4% YoY).

This was the first time in over five years that core inflation rate outpaced headline inflation rate. From the previous month, headline inflation gained by +0.4% YoY (Apr 2013: -1.5% YoY)

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
