Siemens/Samsung consortium takes over Island Power combined cycle power plant site

The 800MW plant to house Siemens’ most sophisticated gas turbines and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

The much delayed Island Power gas-fired combined cycle project on Jurong Island has finally taken off. Siemens and Samsung, the consortium of Island Power’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, officially took over the site from Island Power on April 22. Site work will commence in earnest.

The EPC contract for the 800MW plant, signed back in January 2007 when the project was owned by US-based INTERGEN, went into a long suspension until the new owner, India’s GMR Infrastructure, lifted the suspension in August last year to develop this first foreign IPP in Singapore, according to a Siemens report.

The plant will feature Siemens’ latest state-of-the-art gas turbines which, when completed, will be one of the most efficient units in Singapore. The power plant is targeted for completion by the end of 2013 and will be fueled by regasified LNG.
