Smartkarma acquires Helixtap to boost commodity data capabilities

The acquisition was driven by rising rubber demand, La Niña, and supply disruptions.

SG-based fintech platform Smartkarma has acquired Helixtap, a commodities alternative data and insights platform.

The acquisition will expand Smartkarma’s proprietary data capabilities and institutional coverage, particularly within the commodity and alternative data markets.

Smartkarma aims to deliver exceptional value to clients with enriched data and market intelligence on commodities and the growing electric vehicle market.

The acquisition was driven by rising rubber demand amidst higher volatility, La Niña impacts, and supply disruptions. New EU deforestation regulations also affect the supply chain, as countries focus on the electric vehicle market and more funds expand their commodities desks.
