Wong reiterates UBS' role in Singapore financial services

The bank opened its new Singapore branch in Penang, 17 November.

Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong talked about UBS’ role in the financial service industry of Singapore during the bank's opening ceremony of its new premises at 9 Penang Road and the celebration of its 50 years in the country.

Wong touched upon some of the bank’s significant past actions, including the bank’s membership of the Private Bank Industry Group since 2011 and its role as co-chair in 2019.

Wong highlighted the bank’s position as a corporate partner, emphasising how UBS develops Singaporean talents. Initiatives such as the UBS University as an APAC Center of Excellence and the Singapore University Program for Employability and Resilience were also mentioned by the minister.

He also acknowledged the bank's community efforts, such as the Optimus Foundation that has raised over $15m in donations, the collaboration with the LASALLE College of the Arts for the UBS Sustainable Art Programme, and the UBS Youth Academy.

"UBS’s growth in Singapore has contributed immensely to the competitiveness and strength of our financial services industry," Wong said.
