PUB launches beer from recycled water

PUB's NEWater has passed 150,000 scientific tests.

The Public Utilities Board (PUB) partnered with restaurant and microbrewery Brewerkz to launch NEWBrew beer which is made from PUB’s recycled water, an announcement revealed.

The NEWBrew beer was crafted using 1,920 litres of PUB’s NEWater as well as British malts and US hops. Brewerkz supplied 900 litres of the beer for its launch in the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2018.

“A result of PUB’s investments in research and technology, it is well within international standards of safe drinking water,” SIWW managing director Bernard Tan said.

NEWater has been a part of Singapore’s water supply since 2003 and has passed 150,000 scientific tests. It has five plants that supply up to 40% of Singapore’s water needs.

Brewerkz serves American food and Singapore-crafted beer in Riverside Point, Sentosa Boardwalk, Orchard Parade Hotel, and in the Singapore Indoor Stadium as well as in some overseas branches.
