Tiny Pod’s co-living train hotel (Tiny Pod)

Co-living train hotel opens at one-north

The project offers eight compact, ensuite rooms housed within a refurbished Kawasaki-Nippon Sharyo C751B train car.

A decommissioned MRT train carriage has been converted into a co-living hotel, now open at JTC’s LaunchPad in one-north.

Named Train Pod @ one-north, the project offers eight compact, ensuite rooms housed within a refurbished Kawasaki-Nippon Sharyo C751B train car that was in service from 2000 to 2024.

The initiative is led by local startup Tiny Pod, known for its earlier shipping container hotel concepts. It forms part of LaunchPad’s innovation ecosystem, which supports pilot projects by startups. The hotel integrates smart lock systems by Igloohome, crowd management solutions by Ailytics, and self check-in and virtual concierge services by Vouch.

The interior of the train has been largely preserved, including the original seating and control panels. Guest rooms are equipped with basic amenities such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and bunk beds. Additional shared facilities include vending machines, a coin-operated laundry, and an outdoor kitchen.

According to Tiny Pod, approximately $300,000 and eight months were invested in refurbishing the carriage. The project received support under the First Mover Framework, which facilitates experimental uses of public space by allowing selected projects to bypass the traditional tender process.

Train Pod @ one-north is expected to open for public bookings in the second half of 2025.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
