Singaporeans prioritise travel savings over homes, retirement: survey
About 69% of those surveyed say they find it challenging to budget for holidays.
40% of Singapore travellers now prioritise saving for leisure travel over other financial goals such as home ownership and retirement, according to a recent survey by Skyscanner and Trust Bank.
According to the Savvy Travel Survey, which gathered insights from 1,000 respondents in Singapore, travel remains a non-negotiable for many. Nearly three in four (74%) say they plan to take the same number of trips—or even more—in the year ahead compared to the past 12 months.
However, this growing appetite for travel comes with financial tension. About 69% of those surveyed say they find it challenging to budget for holidays, whilst 72% worry about keeping their travel expenses in check.
The most commonly cited challenges include finding affordable flights and accommodation (44%), sticking to a budget (40%), and managing unexpected costs (30%).
Despite these hurdles, Singapore travellers are adapting their strategies to make travel more affordable.
The survey found 95% are making tactical shifts, such as booking flights early (45%), travelling during off-peak seasons (41%), and choosing budget-friendly destinations (38%).
