FDAWU secures enhanced support package, training fund for Lazada's retrenched workers

At least 100 workers were affected by Lazada's restructuring exercise.

The Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) and Lazada successfully negotiated terms to support retrenched workers of the e-commerce company.

The two parties agreed to an enhanced support package and a dedicated training fund to provide employment and employability support to affected union members.

Previously, Lazada offered to compensate retrenched workers with two weeks’ salary for every year of service, which FDAWU found unsatisfactory.

The two parties have “taken all considerations seriously” and will collaborate with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) to administer this support.

"The intervention by FDAWU is a strong testament to how our unions can represent and protect their members' interests. We urge companies to partner with us and our affiliated unions,” Ng Chee Meng, NTUC Secretary-General, said.
