Amazon Web Services invests $12b in Singapore's cloud infrastructure

Since 2010, AWS has invested over $11b in Singapore.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will invest $12b by 2028 in Singapore to grow its cloud infrastructure and services in the country.

Senior Minister of State for National Development Tan Kiat How welcomed this investment in his speech at the AWS Summit.

According to Tan, AWS has invested over $11b in Singapore since 2010.

"Partnerships with companies like AWS have contributed to the growth of our digital economy," Tan said, adding that the country's digital economy generated $106b dollars worth of value-add to the economy, accounting for about 17% of the nominal GDP in 2022.

"Overall, the digital economy grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 12.9% p.a. since 2017, outpacing the overall economy," Tan said.

To support the company's plan to get more organisations to adopt cloud services and AI capabilities, Singapore will launch the AWS AI Singapore Spring Summer programme.

"This will be a multifaceted collaboration between AWS, the public sector, and private sector enterprises," Tan explained.

Meanwhile, AWS will also collaborate with the Info-Сommunications Media Development Authority (IMDA) to help local enterprises leverage GenAI through the GenAI x Digital Leaders Programme.

"The GenAI x Digital Leaders initiative is for larger and more digitally mature enterprises looking to develop and deploy their own GenAI digital solutions suited for their business needs with the support of tech vendors and technology giants," Tan said.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
