How business leaders are getting strategic about cybersecurity

2 in 3 expect cybersecurity spending to become integrated with digital initiatives.

68% of Singaporean cyber leaders expect cybersecurity spending to become integrated with the budgets for initiatives such as digital transformation, IT programmes, and cloud investments, according to Deloitte’s Global Future of Cyber survey.

The report revealed that cybersecurity is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of many organisations’ growth strategies and business plans amidst today’s advanced and complex threat landscape.

Amongst Singaporean respondents, one-third reported a significant increase in CISO involvement during strategic conversations about tech-related capabilities in the past year, particularly around cloud, quantum computing, and data analytics.

19% of Singapore respondents said that CISOs are now reporting directly to the CEO as the increasingly gaining the ear and trust of CEOs.

Moreover, cyber plays a large role in securing an organisation’s investment in tech capabilities, particularly when it comes to priority areas such as customer identity and access management (CIAM) (61%), cloud (58%), and data analytics (46%).

However, the report also found that cybersecurity concerns do not necessarily just relate to enhancing and securing the organisation’s technological capabilities. 91% of Singapore respondents said they are embedding privacy concerns into the early stages of product development to safeguard customer data better and foster greater digital trust.

The future of AI and cybersecurity is closely linked, with AI being incorporated into the cyber maturity index in this survey. Amongst Singapore respondents, 43% report using AI extensively in their cybersecurity programs. The top AI capabilities include generating advanced cybersecurity simulations (51%), enabling faster responses to threats (49%), and automating security responses (49%). However, respondents also highlight significant risks associated with AI, such as data poisoning (51%), gaps in DevSecOps processes (51%), and concerns about the explainability of Gen AI outputs (44%).
