IMDA launches infocard standard for AI chatbot transparency
The infocard must state what the chatbot can or cannot do and how data is handled, amongst others.
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has published new guidelines to help consumers navigate the use of generative AI chatbots.
The "Transparency Guidelines for GenAI Chatbots" aims to standardise the information that chatbot employers must provide to customers, which is then presented through a chatbot info card.
The info card should answer what the chatbot can or cannot do, its reliability and safety, how data is handled, and how to raise concerns or report issues, the IMDA said. It should be written in plain language, be easy to navigate, and be easy to find.
IMDA said that the info card should remain up to date and are encouraged to publish it when the chatbot is made available to users.
The guidelines were developed with input from the industry, government agencies, and local chatbot users, IMDA said.
Several organisations—including Google, Meta, DBS, OCBC, Singapore Airlines, and Synapxe— have indicated that they will take reference from the guidelines over the next 6-12 months to strengthen their transparency practices, IMDA said.
