M1, Ericsson to automate SG transport networks with AI

M1 Limited and Ericsson have announced a new partnership to implement artificial intelligence-powered automation in Singapore’s transport network infrastructure.
The collaboration centers on the deployment of the Ericsson Transport Automation Controller (ETAC), a cloud-native system designed to manage and optimize complex transport networks.
The solution uses AI and machine learning to automate network operations across microwave, IP, and optical systems.
Following a successful proof of concept, M1 plans to first integrate ETAC into its microwave transport network, with future expansion into its IP network.
The system reportedly improved service assurance, interference detection, and root cause analysis during trial phases. It also aims to reduce power consumption, aligning with M1’s sustainability goals.
The enhanced automation is expected to support mission-critical sectors, such as logistics and port operations, where high service reliability and low latency are essential.
