Sea leverages Google AI in key units under new pact

AI-powered products will be developed for Garena, Shopee, and Monee.

Sea Limited has entered a strategic partnership with Google to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-powered products across its digital entertainment, e-commerce and digital financial services businesses.

The partnership, through a memorandum of understanding, will focus on three Sea subsidiaries: Garena, Shopee, and Monee.

Under the arrangement, Garena will explore the use of Google’s AI solutions to enhance gameplay and improve game development and operations.

In addition, the gaming unit may also participate in early-access pilot programmes linked to Google’s latest AI research projects.

Meanwhile, Shopee will work with the company on developing an AI-powered agentic shopping prototype designed to integrate across both platforms.

In digital financial services, Monee will collaborate with Google on the open, shared Agent Payments Protocol. The unit will provide feedback on the protocol to assess its robustness and security.

The expanded partnership builds on existing collaborations with Google, including the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program and the Free Fire League on Google Play.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
