SID Board Academy immerses directors in ransomware crisis training

The programme targets to train 3,500 directors in APAC by 2030.

The Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) Board Academy has launched a Cyber Incident Management Simulation for Boards with Ensign InfoSecurity (Ensign) to train company directors in cyber incident leadership, with a target of 3,500 directors in Asia-Pacific by 2030.

The initiative supports regulatory direction in Singapore, where the Ministry of Digital Development and Information plans to require cybersecurity training for board members of Critical Information Infrastructure organisations from the first quarter of 2026.

In a press release, SID said the programme uses a 90-minute “Simulation-in-a-box” format based on a cyber wargaming exercise, placing boards in a ransomware scenario that spans disruption, containment, disclosure, recovery, and consequence management.

Participants make time-bound decisions across the incident lifecycle, whilst incident responders from Ensign deliver the training using experience from real cyber incidents.

SID and Ensign will extend the programme across Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Australia, with focus on energy, banking and finance, and healthcare sectors.

More than 500 SID members have completed related training. In the pre-launch phase, 100 board members in Singapore and Thailand registered for the simulation programme.

Ensign said boards face decisions that involve security, operational continuity, financial impact, and legal exposure during cyber incidents.

SID said the programme supports preparation of up to 3,500 directors by 2030 to lead organisations through cyber incidents.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
