MTI steps up AI-powered advanced manufacturing push to reiforce SG's lead
MTI promotes automation, robotics, and AI adoption.
Singapore will strengthen its position in advanced manufacturing, focusing on semiconductors, medical products, aerospace, and specialty chemicals, according to Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry (MTI).
MTI plans to support companies in adopting automation, robotics, and AI to enhance productivity, quality, and flexibility. The workforce will increasingly require skilled roles in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced equipment operation.
The city-state also aims to deepen its leadership in advanced manufacturing and modern services, whilst developing frontier sectors such as quantum technology, decarbonisation technologies, and the space industry.
Companies are encouraged to adopt innovation and low-carbon technologies, Gan said in his speech.
The government seeks to maintain a diverse enterprise ecosystem, supporting multinational corporations, start-ups, and growth-stage companies.
It will promote AI adoption through programmes such as “Champions of AI” and sector-specific AI missions, assisting businesses with transformation, restructuring, and overseas expansion.
Singapore will also strengthen global trade links and supply chains to help companies export and maintain international economic relevance.
The strategy aims to position advanced manufacturing as a key contributor to economic growth, whilst supporting businesses and the workforce in adapting to technological change.
