Grab and GAC to deploy 20,000 EVs across Southeast Asia

Three AION models roll out across six markets

Grab and GAC have partnered to deploy an initial fleet of 20,000 electric vehicles across Southeast Asia.

The arrangement also covers system integration and after-sales support for EV fleets used by Grab’s driver-partners.

Grab will roll out GAC’s AION Y, AION ES, and AION V models in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand.

GAC said the AION V holds a Euro NCAP five-star safety rating, and the models include features such as 90-degree door openings and ample rear legroom.

The partnership will also integrate the Grab driver app into GAC’s intelligent cockpit, allowing drivers to access navigation, high-demand area guidance, and safety alerts directly on the cockpit display.

Driver-partners can rent the EVs through its fleet partners or use financing support via its car ownership schemes.

Grab noted, citing International Energy Agency data, that Southeast Asia’s EV sales surged nearly 50% in 2024. The company already operates over 11,000 EVs in Indonesia and offers an “Eco-Friendly Ride” option in Singapore and Thailand.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
