CIMB nabs StanChart Malaysia chief as Singapore and Growth Markets CEO

He spent 15 years working in Singapore, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and leveraged finance.

CIMB has appointed Mak Joon Nien as chief executive officer (CEO) of growth markets, and CEO of CIMB Singapore. 

Mak will be based in Singapore, leading CIMB Singapore and overseeing CIMB Thailand and Cambodia. His role as CEO of CIMB Singapore is subject to regulatory approval.

Prior to joining CIMB, Mak was appointed the first Malaysian CEO of Standard Chartered Malaysia in 2022.

He brings over three decades of experience in his new role and spent 15 years working in Singapore focusing on mergers and acquisitions, and leveraged finance. He also served as managing director with private equity client coverage as his mandate.
