SP Group and Univers for virtual power plant development in S’pore

The parties will also enhance the platform's deployment.

AI and IoT platform Univers inked a collaboration with SP Group to advance Singapore’s virtual power plant initiative under the city-state’s regulatory sandbox.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the parties will pilot the deployment and market readiness within the Energy Market Authority’s sandbox environment.

In its initial phase, the virtual power plant will aggregate and manage distributed energy assets across various sites, supporting grid services such as frequency regulation, contingency reserve and energy services. The system is designed for scalable national expansion in collaboration with key energy, infrastructure, and industrial partners.

Aside from advancing the development and deployment of the virtual power plant platform, the companies will also establish a scalable framework for future expansion. This collaboration will include coordinated efforts in integration, testing, and market-readiness activities to support wider adoption of virtual power plant capabilities.

“This collaboration is a pivotal step toward commercialising Virtual Power Plant capabilities in Singapore,” said Michael Ding, global executive director, Univers.

“By combining AI innovation with grid expertise, we are advancing a model that not only strengthens Singapore’s energy resilience but also sets a blueprint for how ASEAN countries can accelerate distributed energy adoption and renewable integration.”

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
