Transport Minister Iswaran resigns amidst corruption charges

Chee Hong Tat will replace the embattled transport minister.

Transport Minister S Iswaran has resigned from his post following criminal charges from the public prosecutor.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the embattled transport minister filed his resignation as a cabinet member and member of the People’s Action Party (PAP) on 16 January.

Iswaran also resigned as Member of Parliament for the West Coast Group Representation Constituency.

PM Lee Hsien Loong said Iswaran also vowed to “return all monies received by way of salary as Minister and allowances as MP from the commencement of the CPIB’s investigations in July 2023.”

“Since Mr Iswaran has now resigned, he will henceforth no longer receive any salary or allowance from the government,” PM Lee added.

Following Iswaran’s resignation, the government has promoted Chee Hong Tat as Minister for Transport. Chee will also serve as the Second Minister for Finance.

Meanwhile, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu will concurrently assume responsibility as Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations.

Chee and Fu took on their new roles on 18 January.
