PSA Singapore deploys digital radio system to enhance Tuas Mega Port operations
Motorola’s TETRA system supports 4,000 users and 540,000 daily calls across port operations.
PSA Singapore said it is deploying Motorola Solutions’ TETRA digital across its operations as part of its expansion and digitalisation efforts at Tuas Mega Port.
Ina press release on 16 April, the port operator said the digital radio communications system aims to support safety and operational coordination across its terminals. The system is used by more than 4,000 users and supports an average of 540,000 voice calls daily.
“The development of the Tuas Mega Port is a long-term strastegic investment that leverages advanced technologies and innovations to strengthen Singapore’s competitiveness, resilience and agility in managing the growing complexities and challenges of global supply chains,” Philbert Chua, container division managing director at PSA Singapore.
The Tuas Mega Port is being developed as a fully automated container terminal and will be built in phases.
When fully completed in the 2040s, it is expected to handle up to 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually.
PSA Singapore said the communications system supports 24/7 operations across vessel, yard and landside coordination as container volumes and automation levels increase.
The port operator has been progressively consolidating its container operations at Tuas as part of Singapore’s broader port reorganisation strategy.
