Singapore welcomes Middle East ceasefire

It called for lasting resolution and protection of shipping lanes.

Singapore welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire in the Middle East and called on all parties to adhere to the truce and restore safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

In comments issued on 8 April, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said the ceasefire was an important step towards de-escalation and commended the efforts of mediators, particularly Pakistan. Singapore also urged all parties to halt attacks on non-belligerent states and negotiate in good faith towards a lasting resolution.

The ministry said Singapore further welcomed the commitment under the ceasefire to restore shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy and trade route.

It called on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law, restore safe and unimpeded transit passage through the strait in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and ensure the safety of seafarers and ships.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
