Downtown Line 2 deal greenlights $326m Sungei Kadut dig
Woh Hup and UTEC joint venture will design three bored tunnels spanning one kilometre each.
The Land Transport Authority has awarded the first civil contract, valued at $326m, for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e) to a joint venture between Woh Hup Engineering Pte Ltd and Underground Technology Engineering Construction Pte Ltd.
The contract comprises the design and construction of three bored tunnels, each measuring approximately 1 kilometre in length and reaching depths of up to 21 metres.
These tunnels will be situated beneath Sungei Kadut Avenue, Sungei Kadut Way, and Woodlands Road. A cut-and-cover tunnel will also be built at Gali Batu Depot to support a new reception track.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of the year, with passenger service targeted for 2035.
DTL2e will comprise three stations. DE1, located along Sungei Kadut Avenue, will be the first underground station after Bukit Panjang.
Meanwhile, the new terminus, DE2, will be an underground interchange connected to an aboveground NS6 station on the North-South Line between Yew Tee and Kranji.
