LTA awards contracts for 660 electric buses

By end-2026, these are expected to replace diesel buses for passenger service.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded six contracts for 660 new electric buses as from end-2026, which are expected to replace diesel buses for passenger service.

The buses consist of 360 single-deck and 300 double-deck buses. The contract marks LTA’s first large-scale purchase of electric double-deck buses.

The awarded tenderers are ST Engineering Mobility Services, BYD, Yutong, and Cycle & Carriage Automotive.

The electric buses will feature batteries that have longer operating ranges, passenger information displays, safety systems, and three doors and two staircases.

The contract awarded 100 electric single-deck buses and 150 electric double-deck buses to ST Engineering Mobility Services Pte. Ltd. for a contract sum of about $35.7m and $79m, respectively.

A total of 160 single-deck buses and 50 double-deck buses are to be sourced by BYD (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. for a contract sum of about $71.3m and $34.5m, respectively; whilst 100 double-deck buses are to be sourced by Cycle & Carriage Automotive Pte. Ltd. for a contract sum of about $57.8m.

The contract awarded 100 electric single-deck buses to Yutong International Trade Pte. Ltd. – Yutong Bus Co., Ltd Consortium for a contract sum of about $43.9m.

LTA had also called for a tender in November 2025 to install electric-vehicle charging systems in Mandai Bus Depot, The Kallang, Beauty World, and Tampines North Integrated Transport Hubs to support the electrification of the public bus fleet.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
