Commuters can now connect to the internet while waiting for their trains. Under the Land Transport Masterplan 2013, free WiFi access will be made available at 28 MRT station platforms on the North East Line and stations with high commuter usage, enabling commuters to stay connected wirelessly as they wait for trains.

The Land Transport Authority today revealed that commuters at City Hall, Orchard and Raffles Place MRT stations will be the first to enjoy free WiFi connection at the stations’ platform level.

WiFi access at the remaining station platforms will be progressively rolled out over the next nine months. Commuters can recognise WiFi connected platforms by the posters and decals (Annex A) at these stations.

According to LTA CEO Chew Hock Yong, “The introduction of Wireless@SG at the platforms of all North East Line stations and 12[1] other stations with high commuter volume is aimed at enhancing wireless connectivity for commuters. They can now check their emails, surf the web, or connect to social media platforms on their phones and tablets more speedily while they wait for the train.”

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
