Koh Brothers clinches contract for 3-year Geylang River makeover

The river project entails construction of an estimated 830-metre-long by 26-metre-wide drain, reconstruction of two 3-cell box culverts and the construction of ABC Waters design features, which will help cleanse rainwater runoff.

In a statement, the property developer said that the project is part of PUB’s Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (“ABC Waters”) Programme, which transforms Singapore’s reservoirs and waterways into beautiful and clean streams, rivers and lakes.

Koh Brothers submitted the winning bid of S$37.78 million for river project, which runs from Dunman Road to Guillemard Road.

Landscaping and other amenities will also be done to enhance the Geylang River bank, creating more spaces for the community to enjoy. The widening of the drain will also help improve the drainage of area, and is part of PUB’s long-term flood alleviation programme.

Francis Koh, Koh Brothers’ Group Managing Director and CEO said, “With our strong track record in flood alleviation and drainage projects, we are delighted to be awarded this project which clearly recognises our unparalleled track record in this specialised area.

This project is even more challenging given the limited working space as the drainage reserves are in close proximity of the adjacent infrastructure to the site and existence of other installations."

Work on the project commences in November 2010 and is expected to complete by May 2013.

With this new contract, Koh Brothers’ current order book has increased to S$407.0 million.
