Flying to the sunset: Tigerair Mandala shuts down July 1

Profit-making has been a struggle.

In a statement on Wednesday, Tigerair declared that Mandala will be ceasing its operations on July 1, and all flights from then on will be canceled as all remaining flights until the 30th will operate as scheduled.

Tigerair, which owns 35.8% of the low-cost Indonesian carrier, concluded that the carrier would not be able to sustain its operations at its current financial situation.

Here’s more from the statement:

As a gesture of goodwill, the Tigerair Group will assist all affected customers with either a flight transfer to a TR flight if seats are available, or a refund for tickets booked for travel on 1 July or thereafter. Tigerair has no legal obligation or responsibility to do so. All legal obligations and responsibilities still rests with Mandala.

Customers requiring assistance on flight transfer or ticket refund must contact the Mandala call centre +62 (021) 2939-6688 or the Tigerair call centre (full list of numbers available at https://www.tigerair.com/sg/en/contact_us.php) by 31 July 2014. You may also check tigerair.com for additional information.

The Board and staff of Mandala wish to thank all customers for your support and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
