Singapore opens centre to promote sustainable aviation in APAC
The centre was set up to help balance economic development and sustainability in the region.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has established the Asia Pacific Sustainable Aviation Centre (APSAC) to advance sustainable aviation in the region through policy research, collaboration, and capacity building.
Amongst the immediate priorities of APSAC are to start joint projects, studies, and trials with industry partners to support sustainable aviation policies for the region. It will curate and run capacity-building programmes and conferences.
Han Kok Juan, the director-general of CAAS, will be the chair of the centre’s Board. Philip Goh, an airline industry veteran for 37 years, will be the centre’s founding chief executive officer.
An advisory council comprising senior executives from key partners in the aviation, energy, and green financing sectors will guide and direct the centre in its work.
Partners include companies like Airbus, Boeing, Chevron, ExxonMobil, GenZero, International Air Transport Association, and Neste.
The CAAS, members of the advisory council, and the APSAC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on 14 July to formalise their collaboration to advance sustainable aviation through the centre.
