Cigna Healthcare Singapore clinches accolades at SBR Management Excellence Awards

With its clinical team and innovative approach to preventive care, the global health insurance company brought home wins in two categories.

Cigna Healthcare has revolutionised the way people understand and manage stress, with a groundbreaking new tool designed to visualise the physical and emotional effects of stress on the body and mind.

Partnering with doctors, technologists, and renowned digital artist Sean Sullivan, Cigna Healthcare has developed an innovative technology that combines biometric data with digital art to create dynamic, real-time "Stress Portraits." This tool aims to raise awareness of stress, encourage individuals to take proactive steps toward better stress management, and help reduce the risk of preventable health conditions.

The Stress Portrait tool is powered by three key physiological measurements such as Electroencephalographic (EEG) which is the recording via a brainwave sensing headset; Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) which is the measurement using a finger reader to monitor skin conductance; and Heart Rate (HR) which is the data collected from a sensor.

The collected biometric data is processed through a custom-built algorithm that interprets the information into a digital "Stress Portrait." This portrait uses colour and motion to reflect the individual’s current stress level. Cooler colours such as green and blue indicate low stress, whilst warmer colours such as yellow, orange, red represent higher levels of stress. Purple symbolises moderate levels.

The Stress Portrait is a dynamic, moving visual representation of stress that allows individuals to see the effects of stress in real-time. It features 20 million uniquely settling particles and is rendered in 36,000 frames per second, providing a highly detailed and immersive visual experience.

The goal of the Stress Portrait is to make the invisible effects of stress visible, encouraging individuals to take ownership of their mental and physical well-being. By viewing their personalised stress portrait, individuals are empowered to engage in conversations about stress and its impact, ultimately fostering a deeper understanding of stress as both a mental and physical health issue.
