MUFG Bank Singapore wins Analytics - Banking accolade at SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025
The implementation of APAC Data Warehouse Project 1.0 is a part of MUFG’s integrated digital transformation strategy.
MUFG Singapore triumphed at the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025 with its APAC Data Warehouse Project 1.0, an initiative that introduced advanced data storage and management tools to empower the bank’s business users and modernise workflows.
A major step in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting digital transformation across the bank’s Asia-Pacific operations, the project integrated Alteryx, an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool, enabling business users to independently extract and transform data.
It also incorporated Tableau, a well-known business intelligence tool, to allow teams to create interactive dashboards that provide easy access to real-time data.
This setup connects various data sources in the bank’s 11 branches in the APAC region, including core banking system data and Excel files, ensuring a smooth transition from old processes to a modern data visualisation approach. A total of 25 interactive dashboards have already been developed, and nearly 50 more are in the pipeline.
The project also introduced a business-controlled sandbox, where teams test ideas and make changes quickly without requiring the involvement of the technology team. It also enables the bank to store data in one central location, making it easier to access and share information across teams effortlessly, improving collaboration and operational efficiency.
The system scales as the bank’s data volume grows. It also standardised processes, eliminating risks associated with individual calculations and dependency on specific team members.
Further advancements with the launch of APAC Data Warehouse 2.0 in mid-2025 would see some significant upgrades including the integration of Anaconda Python libraries and JupyterHub.
Self-service dashboard creation will also be further improved, and the platform will connect to additional data warehouses, including those managed by its headquarters in Japan. This will give the bank a more comprehensive view of client relationships, allowing front office staff to better serve its clients.
Winning the SBR Technology Excellence Awards is a recognition of the bank’s investment in technological innovations and its deliberate drive towards building a more digitally enhanced and enabled organisation to support business improvements and operational efficiency for its people.
