Surbana Jurong receives accolade at SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025
The NUS IOC provides actionable insights for quicker responses to emergencies and ensures critical equipment remain operational 24/7.
Global urban, infrastructure and managed services firm Surbana Jurong (SJ) brought home the Smart City - Building Services & Facilities category win in the coveted SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for its stellar performance in digitalising the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) to transform the campus experience.
The IOC is a customised digital solution integrating multiple siloed systems through Surbana Jurong’s proprietary 24k platform, a common data environment plug-and-play solution that integrates building operating systems into the Computerised Maintenance Management System workflow to manage all maintenance information and allows warning of impending faults.
It provides a smart and digitalised platform optimising and automating operations to monitor and manage its three campuses—University Town, Kent Ridge campus, and Bukit Timah—which supports a community of 51,600 students and 4,200 academic members. It also manages 24,000 data points and 10,000 analytics points, achieving over 150 application programming interface connectors and integrating up to eight sub-systems.
SJ, in collaboration with National University of Singapore developed the IOC. Operators of the large-scale campus have a 3D visualisation of the three different campus locations, together with its workflow management, space, environment, assets, surveillance, energy utilisation, amongst others. This ensures the campus operates reliably and efficiently, optimising the number of people having to be deployed on-site and enhancing maintenance capabilities and FM service delivery.
At the same time, it can now integrate data streams from sub-systems such as Mechanical & Engineering equipment, lifts, fire protection systems, and CCTVs that interact with one another in day-to-day operations and can be aggregated, analysed, and acted upon in a comprehensive data architecture. Its agnostic plug-and-play feature also mitigates the risk of downtime from system integration issues.
The seamless integration provided by the platform also means that the devices can interact with each other over the network, as well as be monitored and controlled. By providing a standardised structure, the laborious procedure of promoting the definition of data environments with shared rules is simplified.
NUS IOC’s capabilities are now able to help campus operators make critical decisions about the buildings through a visual dashboard that captures critical information of the entire urban sprawl.
At one glance, they can synthesise large datasets into meaningful metrics, analyse and identify performance gaps against quantifiable goals with real-time data feedback. It can also decide on the next steps, mitigating any downtime to operations, reducing operational carbon footprint, and rectifying security breaches.
“This platform reduces the complexity of dealing with multiple systems and applications provided by different FM and tech vendors using different platforms by integrating them to leverage the intelligence for making coordinated and well-informed decisions swiftly,” said Ang Chee Meng, Director, Integrated Solutions, SJ, who advises asset owners on smart and sustainable facilities management operations.
