Macau tourism grows slowly by 0.86% in June

Costly transportation and accommodation pushed tourists away.

Macau tourism had a dry season when it posted a 0.86% YoY growth rate of visitor arrivals in June.

According to a report by OCBC, the number of visitors from mainland China increased by 0.8%, whilst that from Hong Kong dropped by 3.9%, and the number from Taiwan fell by 9.9%.

Costly transportation and accommodation services could have deterred some tourists, OCBC said.

However, the number of overnight visitors grew for the 23rd month, whilst the share of overnight visitors hit a record high of 56.7%.

Tourist flow from Japan increased 13.5% whilst South Korea's soared by 42.2%.

"This indicates factors including global recovery, a stable MOP and a wide range of promotions offered by a slew of new hotels could still help to lure tourists from various countries to stay overnight and therefore continue to support the revival of the tourism sector," OCBC said.

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
