Grab and WeRide approved for autonomous shuttle testing in Punggol
AV test runs to increase fourfold ahead of 2026 launch
Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) approved Grab and WeRide to begin autonomous vehicle (AV) testing in Punggol.
AV test runs are expected to increase fourfold by end-2025, ahead of a planned public launch in early 2026.
Grab and WeRide will use their full Ai.R fleet on designated shuttle routes, according to a press release. The Ai.R fleet includes 10 GXRs and one Robobus, operated by Grab in partnership with WeRide.
Each AV is equipped with LiDAR and cameras providing 360-degree vision and 200-metre detection range. Testing focuses on route localisation, precision driving, and navigation of urban environments including narrow roads and carparks, as mentioned in the press release.
Over 10 Safety Operator trainees have progressed to on-road training under Grab and WeRide’s joint programme. Operators will supervise all AVs during testing and initial public service.
