Singapore advances digital trade agenda with new APEC centre
Fu highlighted the need to embrace technology and globalisation.
Singapore has called for stronger multilateral cooperation to boost regional resilience at the 2025 APEC Ministerial Meeting held in Gyeongju, South Korea, from 29 to 30 October.
Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu represented Singapore at the event, which brought together ministers from 21 APEC economies and representatives from ASEAN, the OECD and the WTO.
Under the theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper,” discussions centred on enhancing cooperation, leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence for trade, and promoting sustainable growth.
Fu highlighted the need to embrace technology and globalisation to build resilient trade systems and supply chains.
She reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to a rules-based multilateral trading system under the WTO, whilst calling for reforms to ensure its continued relevance.
Alongside Australia, Singapore secured APEC’s approval to establish the APEC Centre of Excellence for Paperless Trade (ACCEPT) at the Singapore Business Federation.
The centre will promote paperless trade through public-private collaboration and capacity building to improve efficiency and lower business costs.
