Tripartite Group to submit platform work proposals by end-2025
It will also work with platform operators to ensure safe, fair payment, and incentives.
The first meeting of the Platform Workers Trilateral Group, which is probing the issue of foreign workers in Singapore’s delivery sector, has taken place, and it aims to submit its recommendations by the end of 2025.
The group includes the Ministry of Manpower (MoM), the Ministry of Transport, the National Trades Union Congress, and ride-hailing firm Grab.
In a Facebook post, Senior Minister of State for Manpower Koh Poh Koon said the group will examine issues related to fair competition in the platform sector.
This includes tackling the illegal use of platform accounts by foreigners, unauthorised delivery work by individuals without valid work passes, and unlicensed hitch services.
Koh also said the group will work with platform operators to ensure payment and incentive schemes are fair and safe.
“We look forward to having further robust discussions on how we can work together to address challenges faced by Platform Workers and safeguard their well-being,” Koh said.
Grab, in its own post, added, “Our goal as a trilateral group is to co-create solutions and industry best practices to protect the livelihoods of platform workers and safeguard their well-being, especially against unlicensed workers and services.”
