EMA sends out first request for proposal for electricity imports

The deadline for submission of proposals is on 1 April 2022.

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) announced the issuance of the first Requests for Proposal (RFP) to appoint electricity importers for its plans to import up to 4 gigawatts (GW) of electricity by 2035.

Overall, this would take up around 30% of the country’s electricity supply.

Over 1.2GW of low-carbon electricity is expected to be covered by this RPF by 2027. Another RFP, meanwhile, is expected to be issued in the second quarter of 2022 and targets a 2035 effectivity date.

Parties interested in this should submit their proposals by 1 April 2022, 3:00 p.m., and should include the proposed generation and interconnector design.

Other factors importers have to take note of is supply reliability, credibility, track record, cost-competitiveness, and ability to supply and manage the carbon output of their generation supply.

Proposals reliant on coal-fired generator technology will not be accepted.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
