AIA unveils medical case management package

A partnership with Medix makes the plan available to the insurer’s 230,000 policyholders.

AIA Singapore has teamed up with Medix Medical Services to make Personal Medical Case Management (PMCM) service available on its healthcare insurance package ensuring quick diagnosis and management of serious medical conditions.

The collaboration, which is the first of its kind in Singapore, qualifies over 200,000 policyholders of AIA Max Essential A and A Saver plans at no additional cost for the tailored healthcare programme which includes medical assessment re-evaluation, referral for testing, ongoing multi-disciplinary consultations and long term medical guidance by Medix’ 300 in-house doctors and independent specialists.

“The strategic partnership with Medix helps to ensure that the right diagnosis is reached and the best possible treatment, inclusive of personalised support is provided to customers every step of their medical journey,” said Patrick Teow, CEO of AIA Singapore. 

A doctor only has an average of 30 minutes to an hour in providing consultation services, making it doubly hard for patients diagnosed with serious illnesses to grapple with an enormous amount of data in a short period of time, from diagnosis to the possibility of cure to the effect on the family, according to Dr Alan Ong, chief medical officer of AIA.

“One of the big value Medix brings to our customers is the support outside of the doctor office, the ability to call anytime and get clarifications on the diagnosis and treatment,” he said. 

Medix will first summarise a customer’s medical history to recommend and coordinate the best possible treatment plan which includes a referral of the most suitable specialist for the customer’s condition. Medix will also work in collaboration with the customer’s treating doctor to provide assistance with on-going treatments, side-effects, complications if any and questions to ensure the best quality care.

The PMCM service provided by Medix, which complements AIA Singapore’s existing healthcare proposition, will be provided for at least three months contingent on the customer’s medical needs.

The tie-up complements existing AIA Quality Healthcare Partners (AQHP), which consists of a network of more than 200 qualified medical specialists. The launch follows the exclusive tie-up between AIA Hong Kong and Medix in 2016.
