IMDA, MWG to pilot Autonomous Mobile Robots at Mandai Wildlife Reserve
The trial will begin in the first quarter of 2025.
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and Mandai Wildlife Group (MWG) have partnered to pilot Singapore’s first outdoor, all-terrain Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
The trial, beginning in the first quarter of 2025, will involve tele-operations for seamless remote management and provide insights for broader industry adoption.
Unlike most AMRs, which are optimised for flat and paved surfaces, these robots have been customised with larger wheels and weather-resistant casings to navigate uneven terrains and variable outdoor conditions.
Autove is developing a concierge AMR to guide guests with information on services, wayfinding, and itinerary recommendations, operating between the Singapore Zoo entrance and the parking area.
Botmind's delivery AMR will handle logistics and transport tasks, such as delivering animal feed across the Bird Paradise’s 17-hectare grounds, potentially saving 1,200 man-hours annually.
For security, dConstruct’s surveillance AMR will patrol the boardwalk and provide real-time monitoring, alerting staff to potential issues.
The AMRs will be managed through a centralised control system, facilitating remote coordination and deployment flexibility.
IMDA and MWG plan to collaborate with tech providers to further enhance AMR capabilities, boosting operational efficiency and freeing staff for more value-driven work.
This project stemmed from a 2023 memorandum of intent to co-develop solutions for commercial deployment, addressing market gaps and helping businesses with new capabilities.
