Shanghai overtakes Bangkok as top international destination for Singapore travellers in 2026

Hari Raya bookings from Singapore also jumped 33% year on year.

Shanghai, China has become the top international destination for Singaporean travellers in 2026, replacing Bangkok, Thailand, according to Trip.com data.

This comes as outbound travel bookings from Singapore for the 2026 Hari Raya Puasa holiday increased 33% year on year, with travel during 20 to 29 March 2026 surpassing the volume recorded from 28 March to 6 April 2025.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sat at third place, whilst Manila, Philippines climbed to fourth place, up from seventh in 2025.

The top ten cities also include Tokyo, Taipei, Seoul, Bali, Hong Kong, and Penang.

Mid-haul flights accounted for the majority of bookings at 70%, followed by short-haul at 24%, and long-haul at 6%.

Generation Z and Millennials drive most outbound demand, relying on digital platforms and artificial intelligence tools, such as TripGenie and Trip.Planner, to plan their holidays.

Inbound travel to Singapore grew 12% during the same period, led by visitors from China, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Germany, the United States, and Turkey showed the fastest growth amongst international source markets.

Popular attractions booked by visitors included Universal Studios Singapore, the Symphony of Destiny fan meeting, and Jewel Changi Airport, alongside the Singapore Oceanarium, Singapore Zoo, and Night Safari.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
