Gov’t pledges more worker support amidst tech shifts, rising uncertainty
This includes increased support for job transitions and skills development.
The government is increasing support for Singaporeans in the job market, including assistance with transitions and skills development, according to Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
In a YouTube video released by the Prime Minister, Wong said the country’s economy performed well last year, and that labour market conditions remained strong, but acknowledged concerns about jobs amidst rapid technological change and an uncertain external environment.
GDP growth is expected to dip slightly to 2% to 4% in 2026, down from 5% in 2025, according to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Separately, a National Trades Union Congress report revealed that over half (56%) of professionals, managers, and executives feel the need to upskill amidst technological shifts as artificial intelligence disruption remains a real concern for workers.
“The government will do more to support Singaporeans in navigating these changes,” Wong said.
He added that further details on the government’s plans would be shared at the upcoming Budget 2026.
