Job scams hit 53% of Singaporeans
Nearly one in five (18%) reported being affected by a scam.
Singapore is the most targeted market in the Asia Pacific for job scams, as over half (53%) reported being targeted, according to a Trend Micro report.
The report also found that nearly one in five (18%) reported being affected by a scam.
This is amplified by high digital connectivity, with 69% receiving income offers via text or email. Of these offers, 35% originated from unfamiliar sources.
Of those receiving such offers, 25% chose to engage with the texts or emails, driven primarily by the need for extra income (35%) and curiosity (31%), as the majority (69%) of job offers promised easy money.
Amongst job scam victims, 40% discovered the fraud only after losing a significant amount of money.
Moreover, 96% of Singaporeans worry about financial security. In the last 12 months, 47% indicated a negative impact on their income source, with 62% citing increased living expenses as the main cause.
