NTUC launches $2.5m fund to support migrant worker upskilling

The fund will also help migrant workers with their living expenses.

The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has launched a $2.5m fund to support the upskilling and welfare of migrant workers.

NTUC-affiliate, Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC), will use the fund to enable migrant workers to organise recreation centre activities and provide gift bags to help offset their living expenses, to be distributed in MWC’s recreation centres, onboarding centres, and events.

MWC will allow migrant workers to organise subsidised activities in four recreation centres operated by MWC and NTUC Club. These activities include sports activities and training workshops.

MWC will also allocate a portion of the fund to subsidise courses for up to 1,500 MWC ambassadors over 18 months from 1 July. There are currently 6,600 ambassadors in the organisation.

The NTUC LearningHub will help MWC to provide relevant courses such as Technology Application in Workplace Safety & Health, Operating Forklift, and Supervise Construction Work for Workplace Safety & Health.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
