Only 2 in 10 Singapore bosses eye boosting staff headcount in 2Q

Will there be a boost in pay?

According to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey results released by Manpower Singapore, employers in Singapore report upbeat hiring prospects in Quarter 2 2014 with a seasonally adjusted net Employment Outlook of +17%.

The Outlook declines by 2 percentage points quarter-over-quarter but hiring intentions remain relatively stable year-over-year.

Of the 700 Singaporean employers who participated in the survey, 23 percent expect staffing levels to increase, 5 percent anticipate a decrease and 66 percent forecast no change.

Payrolls are expected to increase in all seven industry sectors during the coming quarter. “Singapore’s labor market outlook in 2014 remains positive, thanks to the recovery of business confidence expected in the US, Europe and China. This will positively impact the business outlook in Singapore, reflected by the job gains in all seven industry sectors.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
