Thousands see 5% pay boost through NTUC CTC grants

The CTC grant has a total of $300m in funding provided by the government.

Nearly 10,000 workers from over 500 companies, including white-collar workers, saw an average pay increase of 5% pay increase and more career progression with NTUC Company Training Committee (CTC) Grant projects.

Aside from a pay increase, workers also received career development through structured plans and/or skills allowances.

This was revealed by Ng Chee Meng, NTUC Secretary-General, on 12 September during his visit to Seletar bus depot, to learn about SBS Transit’s new automated tyre management system.

The public transport operator leveraged a CTC Grant to develop the new system for buses that harnesses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to raise worker productivity and efficiency. It is the first public transport operator to utilise the Grant for a transformation project.

The CTC Grant is one of the key tools that companies like SBS Transit can employ to transform their business and workforce for future needs. The funding supports up to 70% of the development and training costs associated with a project.

The government provided NTUC with an initial $100m when the CTC Grant was launched in 2019. Another $200m was pumped in earlier this year to help more firms accelerate business and workforce transformation.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

If you've been wondering whether SBR could work for your company — yes, probably.

A lot of the companies we partner with started as readers. They'd been following our coverage for a while, saw their own customers and competitors in it, and eventually asked the obvious question: could we do something with you? The answer is usually yes. The shape of it depends on what you're trying to do.

The options are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. Some partners use one channel; most use a mix. We figure out the right combination by starting with your brief, not with our rate card.

So if the question has been on your mind, here's the easy way to ask it.

We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how. It's a better use of everyone's time.
