On-device threats jump 16.2% to 3.8 million in 2025
Malware spread via removable methods continues to persist.
Singapore saw on-device threats rise 16.2% year-on-year (YoY) to 3.8 million instances in 2025, according to data from Kaspersky.
Worms and file viruses accounted for the majority of the incidents, Kaspersky said in a press release in March 2026, based on the number of threats it detected and intercepted last year.
Malware spread via removable USB drives, CDs, DVDs, and other “offline” methods continue to persist and is rising in intensity across Singapore, it said.
On-device attacks can execute automatically once the removable medium is connected, according to Kaspersky, directly undermining the integrity of the host system and is harder to detect with traditional defenses.
Successful infection grants attackers extensive access to sensitive information stored on the device, such as private files, saved credentials, and system data, it warned.
