Government injects over $1b into 'National AI Research' plan
The funding focuses on fundamental research and talent pipelines.
Singapore will invest over $1b from 2025 to 2030 under the National AI Research and Development (NAIRD) plan, said Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information.
The plan supports the country’s broader artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives under the National AI Strategy 2.0 and the Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) plan.
The NAIRD initiative focuses on three key areas: fundamental AI research, applied AI research, and talent.
The government will establish Research Centres of Excellence to advance key areas such as responsible AI, resource-efficient AI, emerging methodologies, and general-purpose AI.
It will also develop applied AI capabilities to support adoption in industry and RIE-driven initiatives, whilst strengthening the talent pipeline from pre-university to faculty levels through partnerships with researchers and institutions.
