Samudera strengthens Asia presence with new Japan shipping venture

The JV has a capital of $1.8m.

Samudera Shipping Line Ltd has incorporated a 51%-owned joint venture in Japan with stated capital of $1.8m (JPY220m), incorporated on 5 February 2026, according to a press release.

The new entity, Blue Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd., was incorporated in Singapore through Samudera Japan K.K., the group’s wholly owned subsidiary, which holds 51% of the 8,800 issued shares out of an authorised 40,000 shares.

The principal activities are domestic shipping and ship leasing, alongside ship agency and maritime transportation agency services, amongst other related businesses including support services for specified skilled foreign workers.

The incorporation is not expected to have any material impact on earnings per share or net tangible assets for the financial year ending 31 December 2026.

Samudera said none of its directors, substantial shareholders or controlling shareholders has any direct or indirect interest in the incorporation other than through their shareholdings in the company.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

The people you want to reach are already in this room.

Every quarter, SBR lands on the desks of the founders, CFOs, and directors running Asia's most consequential companies. Every day, they open our newsletter and read our website. It's a room that took twenty years to build — and it's the one most of our partners are trying to get into.

The good news is that the door is open. We work with companies on thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The shape of the right partnership depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If you have something this room should know about, tell us. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
