Singapore leads the world in elite value creation

The country stands out with its corruption control, amongst others.

Singapore ranked first in the 2024 Elite Quality Index (EQx2024), which assesses whether a country's elites create or extract national value.

Countries in the index are ranked based on 146 indicators such as Power, Creative Destruction, and Unearned Income.

The report underscores Singapore's exceptional role in value creation, particularly demonstrated by its outstanding performance across corruption control, regulatory quality, social outcomes, and economic openness.

Additionally, Singapore's state-capitalist structure has enabled elite value creation, helping it to thrive in a complex global political and economic landscape.

In Asia, Japan ranked 4th, Korea ranked 6th, China placed 21st, and India landed in the 63rd rank.

Last year, Singapore was ranked 2nd, following Switzerland, which held the top spot.

The University of St. Gallen (HSG), Singapore Management University, and the St. Gallen-based Foundation for Value Creation conducted the research.
