
Singapore is ASEAN's least corrupt country, ranks 5th globally
Myanmar is the most corrupt country in ASEAN, ranking 162nd globally.
Singapore is the least corrupt country in Southeast Asia, scoring 83 on Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) from 2019 to 2023, where a score of 0 indicates the most corrupt and 100 is the least corrupt, according to the National University of Singapore (NUS).
This score placed the city-state in 5th place globally in 2023, compared to Myanmar, which ranked 162nd with a score of 20.
Cambodia also ranked low globally at 158th place, followed by Lao PDR at 135th, Indonesia and the Philippines at 115th, and Thailand at 108th.
According to NUS, the nine ASEAN countries (excluding Brunei Darussalam) had an average CPI score of 38.6 in 2023, down from 41.9 in 2021 and below the Asia-Pacific average of 45.
