Tiger Woods-backed Sun Day Red trademark upheld in Singapore dispute with Puma
IPOS dismissed Puma’s challenge, ruling Tiger logo is not likely to confuse consumers with Puma design.
Puma SE has failed to stop the registration of the “Sun Day Red” tiger logo in Singapore, according to a ruling by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).
Puma, the German sportswear company, opposed Sun Day Red’s trademark application, saying the tiger logo looked too similar to its own “leaping cat” logo, used on shoes, clothing, bags, and sports gear, and could confuse customers.
On 13 March, IPOS rejected Puma’s opposition, saying the two logos are different in appearance, style, and design, so most consumers would not mistake one for the other.
It also noted that protecting animal-based logos too broadly could unfairly block other brands from using similar motifs.
Sun Day Red, a Tiger Woods-backed brand, applied for the trademark in 2024 as part of its apparel and lifestyle products.
Puma has also opposed similar logos in other countries, including the US.
